Hydrodynamic Analysis of the Multi-Body System
Wave – Ice Floe – Ship


Thesis:
Bachelor/project- oder Master's Thesis

Background:
The objective is the numerical investigation of the wave – ice floe – ship interaction as hydrodynamic multi-body problem. The focus lies on the approaching process between a ship and a ice floe exposed to waves. Therefore, different ice floe geometries and approaching distances will be investigated in order to determine the influence of the ship on a ice floe motion during an approaching process in terms of motion behaviour and hydrodynamic coefficients. In this context, the ice floe will be investigated as single and multi-body problem, enabling the identifcation of the influence of the ship. In addition, wave characteristics in terms of wave height and length will be investigated systematically. The numerical investigations will be done with the 3D-panel method Ansys Aqwa. The investigations comprises simulations in time and frequency domain.

Tasks:
  1. Literature review of the state of the art
  2. Identification of relevant ice floe forms and sizes
  3. Numerical investigations in time and frequency domain
This topic can be used for Bachelor, Project or Master thesis. The specific amount of work will be adjusted according the requirements of the different types of thesis.
